A Young Boy’s Prayer
Matt had been my best friend. My children had loved him; I had loved him. Nothing could have prepared us for his death. But, I am firmly convinced that “God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Only He could have taken the pain of our loss and made it into a testimony of His love. After he had died, I was lost. My solution had been to move back to our home state. Starting over, it was anything but easy. First a job, finding a good school for my children, and then a home. Having family in the area made the transition a bit easier, but my children and I still greatly missed the life we had left behind. I pray with my children each night- something I had begun with them when they were quite small, and something I hope they will continue when they have children of their own. We had been settled in our new life for a little over a year when my son had offered the following prayer: “Jesus, please send someone special into Momma’s life. She works so hard to take care of everything and to take care of us. It would be so good if she had someone to help her. Someone who would love her and take care of her, too.” Tears had fallen down my cheeks as I had hugged my young son to me. Such a sincere pray, but I know that God answers prayers in His time and not always in ours. However, this was a pray that He had not only heard, but one He had truly answered. Jeff came into our lives about a month later. The events that transpired were truly God’s handiwork, as everything had just “fallen into place”. Jeff and I had recently gotten married. He is not only an amazing husband, but more than for which I could have ever hoped in a step dad for my children. Life often does not go how we had expected or had planned. But, through it all, we need to continually cling to our Father. My life today is not perfect, but I had never thought or believed I could be this happy I am firmly convicted that “with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).
